Game Night!

by Jenny on June 14, 2011

When you?re thinking of family fun, nothing beats a good game night. ?It has been awhile since game night has happened at our home, mostly because of having two little ones. ?Our boys, who are 4 and 2, have not really been able to stay interested in a board game up until now. ?There are plenty of games that are great for that age, but with an 8 year old daughter it?s hard to find games that are fun for all three of the kids. ?It seems as though they are finally all at an age that makes it possible for all of us to do something together as a family. ?Family game night is about to make a comeback!

There are a few games that I can think of that are fun for the whole family:

Charades. What is more fun than charades? ?This classic can be played with just your imagination. ?Just think something up and act it out for the rest of the family! ?We also have a board game version of Charades which involves cards and moving your way around a board, but we usually just end up using the cards. ?Each of them have three different things to act out, so we pick our favorite and act it out. ?iTunes even has an app!

?

Freeze Dance. Our kids love this game. ?We turn on the music and they dance their pants off until the music stops, then they freeze! ?No winners, no losers, just fun. :)

Candy Land. It?s an oldie that never gets old for them. ?Candy Land is one of those games that the boys are able to play, and my daughter still enjoys it too. ?Sometimes it can get a little bit long, but there are things that can be done to shorten it a bit. ?When we have gone through the whole stack of cards we reshuffle, but the second time around we leave out the candy cards. ?This way no one gets sent back to the beginning and everyone gets to finish.

?

Some nights, after the boys are in bed, we have game time with our daughter so that we can play games that are more on her level. ?There is one game that she requests all of the time. ?Clue Jr. is her absolute favorite game to play with me and my husband. ?Instead of the adult version where you are solving a murder, you are asked to solve the mystery of the eaten treats. ?It?s totally appropriate for children and a lot of fun to play.

What are some of the games that your family likes to play together?
