CPJ demands investigation into disappearance of television journalist in Mexico

The Committee to Protect Journalists demanded that Mexican authorities thoroughly investigate the case of a of a television journalist who went missing over two weeks ago.

Journalist Adela Jazm?n Alcaraz L?pez, a cable television host in the central state of San Luis Potos?, was last seen on Oct. 26. There are no known motives for her disappearance. According to local journalists, her captors also took her two children but released them later, reported the newspaper Vanguardia.

The Special Prosecutor for Attention to Crimes against Freedom of Expression confirmed there were federal agents investigating the crime but there was no indication that the journalist's disappearance was related to her work, according to the news agency Notimex.

Alcaraz's case joins the 17 other missing journalists in Mexico, the most dangerous country in the Americas for the press.
